Summer Palace (in Winter)

Sunday was again a nice day, so we continued our excursions with a visit to the Summer Palace, in the North West suburbs of the city. There was still much evidence of the cold winter, with ice a foot think covering the rivers and lake edges. We were glad that the worst of winter was past and that it was an unseasonably warm day!

The Summer Palace is a large pleasant park with gardens, a lake, and many palaces and pavilions dating from the nineteenth century, as well as some modern reconstructions. It will be fun to revisit later in the year to explore some more and to see the trees and flowers blossom.
