Xiamen

Today we flew to Xiamen, on the next leg of our tour. The drive from the airport to the university was along the green hilly coast in bright sunshine. The university itself is modern and attractive, with spacious landscaped grounds, including a lagoon right near the campus hotel where we were are staying. To pass the time before dinner we wandered outside the campus to an older section of town.

Since Xiamen is an island on the coast, the food specialties contain many seafood dishes. One of them we were treated to for dinner is worms dug up from the mud. They are served in a jelly. This isn't one of my favorite foods - I didn't think they tasted of much except salt. Another dish was octopus, which I liked much better. This picture is from a couple of days later in the market.
